Swedish massage is the name given to a ‘normal’ massage and there’s nothing wrong with that. A Swedish massage maybe of a light pressure to calm the peripheral nerves and lull you into a zone of total relaxation using a mix of long sweeping strokes and gentle working of any knots present in the muscles. Swedish massage may also be of a deep pressure using forearms and knuckles to specifically address muscle tension and knots. Petrissage and hacking movements will encourage fresh blood and it’s nutrients of food and oxygen to flood into the area worked.
Many studies have linked massage to improved functioning of the immune system. Massage is endorsed by the Arthritic Society due to it’s anti-inflammatory action aiding pain relief and improving movement and well being in the individual.
